MISSION/VISION

Our mission is to foster genuine conversations about prostate and breast cancer, focusing on awareness, education, early screening, detection, and treatment within African American communities. We are committed to addressing the unique challenges faced by this underserved population, including medical discrimination and health disparities. African American men and women are at a higher risk, often experiencing delayed diagnoses and higher mortality rates compared to other racial groups.

Dr. Edward Wright...

I received a call from my doctor... 'We found a small amount of prostate cancer.' They said, Wright wasted no time getting on top of diagnosis. Now at 67, he is cancer free and on a mission to educate and spread awareness about the disease to Black men in North Texas.

               WHY?

Why do we do this...You might ask...

The answer is very simple...

Because Real Men Talk

About Prostate Cancer!" By doing this, we hope to help reduce the number of deaths in the African American Male population that occur at twice the rate of any other race from prostate cancer. We intend to do this in several ways:

1. By strategically targeting the underserved African American Male communities.

2. By conducting an annual prostate cancer education and awareness conference, that will include Medical professionals from the fields of Oncology, Radiology, and Urology;

3. By ensuring the proper resources are made available to prostate cancer survivors and those that are at high risk of contracting the disease, i.e., African American Male aged

45-70, Veterans, and their families.

4. To be very deliberate in our approach to disseminating sustainable results based on information received by supporting organizations.

Funding Strategies:

We hope to secure funding as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, seeking grants, sponsorships and partnerships with other like-minded organizations. Additionally, it is our intent to secure funding through fundraising events like Conferences, Raffles, and an Annual Award Gala.

Bishop Dr. Eddie Wright

                  Survivor

Bishop Eddie Wright is a United States Navy Veteran. He's also a middle school substitute teacher, currently pursuing his degree in cyber-security.
But his most influential title is "10 year cancer survivor."

Wright's journey to that title began in 2012. That's when his PSA level jumped from 1.5 to 5.5 in about a year. Most men without prostate cancer have PSA levels under 4 ng/mL of blood. When prostate cancer develops, the PSA level often goes above 4.

I received a call from my doctor... 'We found a small amount of prostate cancer.' They said" Wright wasted no time getting on top of diagnosis. Now at 67, he is cancer free and on a mission to educate and spread awareness about the disease to Black men in North Texas.

It is important to acknowledge that changing stigma is a complex and long-term process that requires a collaborative effort between healthcare providers, community leaders, and community members.

How can we change the stigma in minority communities about prostate cancer?

  • Education and Awareness

Providing information about the importance of early detection and the benefits of screening can help to dispel myths and misconceptions about prostate cancer. This can be done through community events, educational materials, and outreach programs.

  • Building Trust

Building trust between healthcare providers and minority communities is crucial in addressing cancer disparities. This can be done by hiring and training culturally competent healthcare providers, and by involving community leaders in planning and implementation of cancer education and awareness programs.

  • Addressing Systemic Issues

Addressing the systemic issues that contribute to cancer disparities, such as poverty, lack of access to healthcare, and lack of health insurance, is important in reducing the burden of prostate cancer in minority communities.

  • Personal Stories and Testimonials

Hearing personal stories and testimonials from survivors and their families can help to break down the stigma around prostate cancer and encourage men to get screened and seek treatment.

  • Community-Based Participatory Research

Including community members in the research process and providing them with information and education about research studies can help to build trust and increase understanding about the importance of research in addressing health disparities.

We are excited to present the "Together We Win" inaugural scholarship aimed at supporting and empowering the families of prostate cancer survivors and patients. Prostate cancer not only affects the individuals diagnosed, but also places significant emotional, financial, and psychological burdens on their families. Our scholarship program seeks to alleviate these challenges by providing educational opportunities, financial aid, and a supportive community for these families.

The "Together We Win" scholarship aims to ease the financial burden that families of prostate cancer survivors and patients may face due to medical expenses and caregiving responsibilities.

We intend to offer educational scholarships to graduating high school students to pursue higher education, or vocational training, enabling them to secure better career prospects.

The "Together We Win" scholarship program will contribute to raising awareness about prostate cancer, promoting early detection, and creating a supportive network for families impacted by the disease.
